The application period for the Mahler Competition 2023, the international conducting competition that takes place every three years in Bamberg, Germany, with the Bamberg Symphony, runs from September 15th to November 30th 2022. Applications are submitted online via the competition website. At the end of January / beginning of February 2023, the jury will inform all applicants about the result of the selection of the final competition participants. These will be invited to Bamberg from July 6th – 15th 2023 to conduct the orchestra in several rounds.
July 6th 2023 is for arrivals as well as the drawing of the preliminary rounds for July 7th and 8th. The main rounds will take place on July 10th and 11th, and the semifinals on July 12th and 13th. The finals will take place on the evening of July 13th. On July 15th 2023, the Bamberg Symphony will present the winner of the Mahler Competition 2023 in a final concert and hand over the prizes. The organisers invite all participants who have already been eliminated to stay in Bamberg until the final concert. The competition is also expressly intended as a forum for contact making and networking.
