Klosters Music celebrates its 5th anniversary in 2023
After the motto “Zeitreise. A Musical Journey” at the last festival, Klosters Music is wholly devoted to nature in 2023. Haydn’s magnificent oratorio “The Creation”, brought to life by the Basel Chamber Orchestra and the Bavarian Radio Chorus, meets Vivaldi’s famous violin concertos “The Four Seasons”. Beethoven’s 6th Symphony “Pastorale”, shaped by impressions of nature, can also be experienced with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen.
“The theme Sehnsucht Natur. Musical Landscapes also describes the personal feelings of the audience and the artists, when they come to Klosters and experience the magnificent Alpine panorama,” says David Whelton, artistic director of the festival. Sir András Schiff, Arabella Steinbacher and Sol Gabetta will meet again. The cellist is part of a string trio in a class of its own along with Veronika Eberle and Antoine Tamestit.
Andreas Ottensamer, solo clarinettist of the Berliner Philharmoniker, will be a guest for the first time. Switzerland’s National Day on 1 August will be uplifted with the silent film concert “Charlie Chaplin & Buster Keaton”. The opening concert with soprano Julie Fuchs (opera arias and Mozart’s “Exsultate, jubilate”) and the Camerata Salzburg ensures the festival starts off on a high note.

Arena Klosters
In the centre of Klosters, the Arena is a modern, multifunctional sports and event centre. The centre is formed by the two new halls Arena 1 and Arena 2, which together with the foyer offer space for events of all kinds from 100 to 3500 people. Whether concerts, general meetings, sports events, conferences, exhibitions, galas, shows, theatre or musicals, our halls are ultra-modern and well equipped. The Arena Klosters will be the event hall for big concerts such as the Opera Gala (with Elsa Dreisig and the Kammerorchester Basel) and the symphonic concerts with Veronika Eberle, Die Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and Pablo Heras-Casado, and Martin Helmchen.

Activities include 700km of hiking trails, golf courses (grandiose panoramic view of the majestic mountain peaks), mountainbiking, in the midst of the mountains, stand up paddling on Lake Davos and many other experiences for families and for the more adventurous (Davos Klosters is a dream spot for paraglider and hand glider).

There’s no dress code given, but as Klosters Music is a high-profile social event, it requires an appropriate fashion.
Food & Drink
Since the concerts are exclusively in the evening, there’ll be served champagne and other drinks in case the epidemiological situation allows it. Furthermore we recommend in general the high quality cuisine of Klosters in various restaurants, mountain restaurants with tradition and also coffee shops in the village itself.

A further special feature of “Klosters Music” is that the concerts with some of the most famous musicians of our time will take place in intimate concert situations in St. Jacob’s Church and Arena Klosters.
St. Jacob’s Church
The church of St. Jacob in Klosters is the main concert room for Klosters Music. The building is fabulous for its acoustic and warmth atmosphere. In the church of St. Jacob itself there is always something unknown to discover or old familiar things to see with new eyes. There’s the history of the church's origins, the exciting interior of the church tower and the wonderful stained glass windows by Augusto Giacometti. And last but not least St. Jacob’s Church has a wonderful new organ, built by Orgelbau Goll in Luzern and inaugurated in October 2018. It’ll be played by Benajmin Righetti with i. a. Bachs Toccata and Fugue in d minor on 6th of August 2020.
