With the explosion of new videos of concerts, opera, ballet, dance, theatre and even circus, most of it free, we know that many of you are bewildered by the choice. Bachtrack's catalogue of online performances, streamed and on-demand, usually has well over 800 videos: with so many delights to tempt you, how to choose? With many available only for short periods, how to plan?
Never fear: we're here to help. Since the Coronavirus pandemic began, every Friday, we have been sending out a free newsletter packed with videos that will enthral you. We go through the most recently added videos and we select the best. We look at videos which are due to expire. We consider operas and ballets which are rarely staged as well as familiar favourites with stellar casting. We discover opera houses and dance companies which are quite new to us, some of which are a real eye opener.
We go through opera and ballet performances on demand; we look and we listen to classical music concerts, considering video quality as well as audio quality. Outside the music world, we watch theatre performances and marvel at circus feats of skill. Finally we consider online activities for children: our children are grown up now, but we know what they would have loved when they were growing up.
Each Friday, we put together a list of our favourite performances so that our audience can be transported from the harsh reality of daily life to the magical world of make believe, where anything can happen (and frequently does).
