RSPO Orchestra Academy

Eleven positions are open for application 2023/24: flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, French horn, timpani/percussion, violin (two positions), viola, cello and double bass.

The deadline for application on universityadmissions.se is Monday January 16, 2023.

About the programme

Since its launch in January 2016, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra (RSPO) has offered one year's training on site at the Konserthuset Stockholm. The RSPO Orchestra Academy aims to give participating students heightened knowledge and understanding of the profession by giving them the chance to work with – and alongside – one of Europe’s leading symphony orchestras.

Application process

Application to the Academy is open to everyone with a Bachelor of Music or similar.  Applications for the 2023/2024 Academy opened on December 1, 2022 and will close by January 16, 2023. Applicants apply through the Swedish University admission system on universityadmissions.se. They will need to provide proof of their degree to universityadmissions.se before February 1, 2023.

Auditions

The first round is pre-recorded. Applicants must submit a video containing the requested repertoire before February 1, 2023, using the webforms on the homepage HERE. The following rounds will be live/in-person at Konserthuset Stockholm, in late March 2023.

The recording should be in good quality video format and the concerto can be recorded with or without a pianist. The file should be uploaded as a Youtube video with the links submitted to a webform. Applicants are advised to record the solo concerto in one take, and all orchestral excerpts in another. We recommend the use of an external microphone, and a room with a moderate acoustic.

The recording constitutes the first of two admission tests. Applicants with approved work samples will be invited to an audition which constitutes the second admission test. Applicants who pass the audition will be ranked based on instrument.
