‘An apology is due to the public for inflicting upon it another review, but I should not be doing so unless I were persuaded that many of the numerous possessors of gramophones will welcome an organ of candid opinion.’ So wrote Compton Mackenzie in April 1923 as a prologue to the first issue of The Gramophone. One hundred years on, and recognised the world over as one of the most influential classical recording magazines, it’s time for Gramophone to celebrate. Gramophone’s Editor in Chief James Jolly tells the story of the magazine’s first century in the company of a stellar line-up of artists, many of whom are recipients of Gramophone Awards.
General sale for this concert will open at 10:00am on Tuesday 14 February.
