A work of political protest, Sibelius’ Finlandia is a musical representation of both Finland’s panoramic landscapes and its deep-rooted national pride and identity. From its ominous opening to turbulent passages and soaring melodies, this work provides the perfect contrast to Beamish’s rhythmically animated Reckless, commissioned by Southbank Sinfonia in 2012. Expect vivacious and effervescent playing!
Southbank Sinfonia finish this concert with Coleridge-Taylor’s spirited Symphony in A minor. Delve into joyous melodies, string flourishes, rhythmic propulsions, and tonal colours.
