Anton Bruckner’s voluminous and sonically sumptuous symphonies never cease to amaze. The balance between the overarching musical architecture and the smaller details is always exquisitely even. The Eighth Symphony became Bruckner’s last complete symphony and is a summation of all of his compositional achievements. After completing the work on the magnificent finale, Bruckner concluded: “This is the most significant orchestral movement I have composed in my entire life.”
The Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra is led by German conductor Christoph Eschenbach. He has guest performed at Konserthuset and with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra on many occasions before, and debuted with the orchestra in 1974 as the piano soloist in Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4. For the past ten years, he has been invited to return at regular intervals, especially as one of the world-leading conductors of the Mahler and Bruckner repertoires.
Christoph Eschenbach has previously served as chief conductor for a host of the world’s foremost orchestras. He is presently chief conductor of the Konzerthausorchester Berlin.
