Mahler's Third

Gustaf Mahler believed that a symphony must be like the world, it must encompass everything. Symphony No. 3 from 1895-96 is a universe that offers a dramatic journey that both encompasses and unites nature, man and God. Nature is death and destruction, but also love and joy. The pain of the world can be alleviated by the heavenly paradise.

Symphony No. 3 is Mahler's most sunny and outgoing symphony. It is also his longest with its six movements of 90 minutes - with a stunning expression of peaceful power and beauty.
