Alan Gilbert | Dirigent |
Königliches Philharmonisches Orchester Stockholm |
The Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra performs Anton Bruckner's Symphony No. 8 in C minor under the leadership of Conductor Laureate Alan Gilbert.
Alan Gilbert was chief conductor of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra from 2000–2008. He completed a number of highly regarded tours and concerts at Proms and Carnegie Hall, and helped to propel the orchestra’s position in the international arena. After his time with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra until now, Gilbert has had the prestigious positon as chief conductor of the New York Philharmonic.
One of the major symphonic composers to which Gilbert often returns to is Anton Bruckner. In this grandiose yet tasteful music, the entire capacity of the orchestra is put to use. The Eighth Symphony became Bruckner’s last complete symphony and is a summation of all of his compositional achievements. After completing the work on the magnificent finale, Bruckner said: “This is the most significant orchestral movement I have composed in my entire life.”
